Excavation, site preparation and drainage in Los Angeles

Good construction begins below and around the finished building. Sierra Development discusses excavation, grading, site preparation, and drainage work in Los Angeles and the surrounding valleys. These scopes may support a new home, addition, foundation, pool, retaining wall, driveway, or broader commercial project. The starting point is the site and the purpose of the work.

Establish what is known about the ground

Provide a survey, proposed grading or drainage plan, geotechnical information, and any existing engineering drawings when available. Tell us what is known about buried utilities, previous fill, retaining structures, and access. Project-specific evaluation is important where excavation or grade changes affect a building, slope, or neighboring property.

Demolition, soil removal, export, and disposal should be addressed in the construction scope. Material handling can require different equipment and delivery arrangements depending on access and working space. The volume of work cannot be reliably established from a single photograph or an approximate footprint.

Treat drainage as a complete route

A drainage discussion should identify where water originates, how it moves through the site, and where it may lawfully discharge. Surface collection, subsurface conditions, elevations, building interfaces, and adjoining improvements all matter. Adding an inlet without resolving the route is not a complete plan.

If you are reporting a problem, describe when it happens and provide photographs or video taken during rainfall when safe to do so. Standing water, erosion, wall staining, and wet building interiors are observations for review, not diagnoses we can confirm remotely. Appropriate design and permitting requirements depend on the specific work.

Coordinate the next stage of construction

Sitework is closely tied to foundations, retaining walls, pools, and hardscape. Finished levels and access requirements should be discussed before those stages begin. Review our hillside foundation and retaining-wall pages for related scopes, then send Manuel the project location, plans, access information, and the work you want evaluated.

Questions before you build

Does Sierra Development discuss excavation, grading & drainage in the surrounding valleys?

Yes. Sierra Development serves Los Angeles, Santa Clarita, Castaic, the entire San Fernando Valley, and the San Gabriel Valley. Send the property location and scope to Manuel Carrillo for project review.

What should I provide for a excavation, grading & drainage inquiry?

Send the project address or neighborhood, current photographs, available drawings, intended work, and known access or occupancy constraints. Identify design and permit information still pending. A price or schedule depends on reviewing the actual scope.
